Design and Display Evolution
According to leaked information, the Xiaomi MI 16 series will mark a shift in design philosophy, with all models reportedly adopting a straight-screen design. This move away from curved displays is said to be accompanied by a substantial reduction in bezel size, with bezels expected to be a mere 1.1–1.2mm, a notable improvement over the Mi 15’s 1.38mm. The use of the LIPO packaging process is also mentioned, which could contribute to the thinner profile and improved internal space management.
Display sizes are expected to vary across the lineup. Both the standard Xiaomi 16 and a new “Pro Mini” variant are rumored to feature a compact yet vibrant 6.3-inch 1.5K display. This would be a welcome change for users who prefer smaller, more manageable devices without sacrificing flagship-level performance. The “super large cup” model, likely the Xiaomi 16 Pro, is tipped to come with a larger 6.85-inch 2K display with rounded corners, providing a more immersive viewing experience for media consumption and gaming.

Performance and Battery Life
At the heart of the Xiaomi 16 series will be the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. This next-gen chip promises significant performance and power efficiency gains, ensuring that the phones can handle the most demanding tasks with ease. Leaks also suggest a major upgrade in battery capacity. The standard Xiaomi 16 is rumored to pack a massive 7,000mAh battery, a huge leap from the previous generation.
This substantial battery, combined with support for 100W fast charging, could make battery anxiety a thing of the past. The new Xiaomi 16 Pro Mini is also expected to have a sizable 6,300 mAh battery, a decent size for a compact flagship. All models are expected to run on Android 16 with the company’s new HyperOS 3 skin on top.
Camera
Camera technology is another area where the Xiaomi MI 16 series is expected to shine. The standard and Pro models are rumored to feature a triple rear camera unit, including a 50-megapixel 1/1.3-inch primary camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. The front-facing camera is also getting a major upgrade, with leaks pointing to a 50-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus and support for 4K video recording.
The Xiaomi 16 is also rumored to be equipped with Nokia’s OZO Audio technology, which could enable advanced sound features like 360-degree spatial audio capture and audio zoom, while also helping to reduce wind and background noise. The Xiaomi MI 16 Ultra, a model that is not expected until 2026, is rumored to feature a 1-inch 50-megapixel SmartSens sensor.
