Slated for an earlier-than-usual release, this series is tipped to be the first to feature the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, formerly known as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. With a rumored launch window between September 24 and September 26, the Xiaomi 16 series is set to make a significant splash in the high-end smartphone market. This early debut, strategically timed with Qualcomm’s new chipset reveal, signals Xiaomi’s ambition to lead the pack in performance and innovation.

Design and Display Evolution

 

According to leaked information, the Xiaomi MI 16 series will mark a shift in design philosophy, with all models reportedly adopting a straight-screen design. This move away from curved displays is said to be accompanied by a substantial reduction in bezel size, with bezels expected to be a mere 1.1–1.2mm, a notable improvement over the Mi 15’s 1.38mm. The use of the LIPO packaging process is also mentioned, which could contribute to the thinner profile and improved internal space management.

Display sizes are expected to vary across the lineup. Both the standard Xiaomi 16 and a new “Pro Mini” variant are rumored to feature a compact yet vibrant 6.3-inch 1.5K display. This would be a welcome change for users who prefer smaller, more manageable devices without sacrificing flagship-level performance. The “super large cup” model, likely the Xiaomi 16 Pro, is tipped to come with a larger 6.85-inch 2K display with rounded corners, providing a more immersive viewing experience for media consumption and gaming.
